What to Expect from Couple’s Therapy
We utilize Emotional Focused Thearpy for Couple’s Counseling which is experiential and psychodynamic. EFT is empirically backed by research and shows favorable outcomes on health when co-stress regulation is practiced. During the process, we take the time to get to know you and your unique attachment history, hurts/traumas and how it connects to your current connection experience. We want to understand what attachment needs may have been unmet in your journey, so we can create new ways to reach and connect.
Three stages of change in EFT:
- Deescalation
- Creating safety, removing blocks to safety and vulnerable sharing
- Bonding
- Vulnerable sharing and new connections
- Naming and discussing attachment injuries
- Discussing raw spots from Family of Origin or past relational traumas
- Consolidation
- Revisiting old topics with new eyes/skills/positive interactional pattern
What you can expect in EFT therapy:
- Personalized assessment of each member’s attachment history and desired relational outcomes
- EFT interventions which include turning towards your partner and engaging in a new way.
- 8-10 sessions is recommended, but can vary from case-to-case
Couple’s Groups and Workshops (for low-stress couples)
The Creating a Lasting Connection Workshop teaches couples how to use the Connection Map. This is a great visual for how to connect and reconnect after hurt has happened. The body movement and attachment-based responses used on the Map has a powerful effect on soothing one’s partner. This ties into the Theology of the Body’s philosophical basis of, “being as gift”. We will be offering workshops soon for couples looking for new communicative ways to connect. Find out more about this tool here: https://www.buildingalastingconnection.com.
